Why is it important for your baby to have therapy prior to a tongue/lip tie procedure?
Tongue ties are formed during gestation, therefore your baby has developed compensations that can create many issues. Not only that, but tongue dysfunction results in cranial nerve dysfunction (CND) of the nerves that control our face, mouth and tongue. We work to reduce and minimize these compensations by:
Eliciting optimal oral function through specific interventions, including suck training and sensory integration techniques
Providing therapeutic movement of the tongue, lips, face and entire body to remove tension and retrain muscles
Determine optimal timing of release (and determine if a release is necessary)
Nervous system regulation
Form new neural pathways
Practice wound care
It is important not to rush into a release! With pre and post frenectomy therapy, we will see;
Quicker functional changes after the release
Calmer nervous system and ability to tolerate feedings
Prepared tissues
Better response to wound care
